What is Selenite?
Selenite is a crystal variety of the mineral Gypsum and it comes in several forms - Satin Spar, Desert Rose and Gypsum Flower to name but three. It is luminous and beautiful and, not only does it attract energy and light, it doesn't need to be recharged, making it one of the most important crystals in your toolkit.
Selenite is named after the Greek Goddess of the Moon, Selene. Selene was the Titan goddess of the moon. She was depicted as a woman riding side-saddle on a horse or driving a chariot drawn by a pair of winged steeds. Her lunar sphere or crescent was either a crown set upon her head or the fold of a raised, shining cloak.
Selenite helps to clear the mind, expanding the awareness of the self. It opens the crown and higher crown chakras and accesses angelic consciousness and higher guidance. It can be used to access past lives as well as future lives. Selenite is a calming stone that instils deep peace and is excellent for meditation or spiritual work. It assists judgement and insight. It clears confusion and aids in seeing the deeper picture.
No matter how many times you use your Selenite it will still operate with the same frequency and energy without being recharged. In fact, it has the ability to recharge your other crystals as well, this is because Selenite has a unique ability to remain bright as it absorbs and dissipates negative energy. Try resting your crystals on a Selenite dish, plate, or wand for 24 hours and feel their energy recharging!
How to use Selenite for Healing
A Selenite wand is particularly good for self-healing and recharging your batteries. A Selenite wand creates a powerful light frequency to aid healing and to instil serenity and peace into your body. Simply take time out to meditate or just rest and, whilst in a sitting or lying position, hold a Selenite wand in each hand for 5 minutes. This is particularly beneficial if you've been around a lot of people, if you have been suffering from anxiety, or if you simply need to ground yourself and regain your focus.
It is also believed that Selenite can help you to activate your crown chakra in order to access the celestial and angelic realms. The high vibrational energy emitted from Selenite will cleanse your aura and offer protection. Displaying your Selenite by your bed will help you to receive messages from your angels whilst sleeping.
You can cleanse your own, or another's, aura by sweeping the Selenite wand from the head to the feet whilst the wand is being held parallel to the body. It is important to set your intentions whilst healing, as with any crystals, so you must intend that any negative energy will be turned into positive energy whilst carrying out the sweeping motion.
A word of warning - Selenite is a fragile and delicate mineral so treat it with care. It's not recommended for jewellery as it can scratch easily, and never submerge Selenite in water or it will quickly revert back to it's natural state of Gypsum!
